As a family business that operates sustainably, we have been able to acquire expertise and gain experience over a long period of time. In this report, we hope to share these benefits with others. We are aware that ASSMANN is not perfect and that there is still potential for optimisation in our processes. In keeping with our guiding principle, #go_further, we see this not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity for further development.

Official guidelines provide assistance

ASSMANN's current Sustainability Report is already based on the criteria of the new EU-wide reporting obligation (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, CSRD), even though this will not be mandatory for ASSMANN until 2026. The sustainability team has already carried out the necessary double materiality analysis this year. In addition, ASSMANN has based this report on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standard, which has provided binding requirements for uniform reporting in accordance with the foundation's guidelines since 1 January 2023. The globally established method, which is the most widely used framework for sustainability reporting, provides companies with guidance on how to address the relevant topics from the three areas of economy, ecology and social affairs, categorise them and evaluate them to a sufficient extent. ASSMANN’s orientation towards this standard has already brought success. The 2020 Sustainability Report was recognised by the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW) as the best Germany had to offer in the “Small and medium-sized enterprises” category. In addition, being ranked among the top 50 most sustainable medium-sized enterprises in Germany in 2022 sets a high standard that ASSMANN aims to continue meeting.

As a medium-sized family business with roots in the local community, ASSMANN wants to be judged on its performance. The logical consequence and next step is therefore for ASSMANN to initiate the voluntary external verification of the analyses it has carried out and the data it has collected. To this end, the 2023 Sustainability Report was audited in May 2024 by TÜV SÜD Management Service GmbH in accordance with the GRI Standards (2021).
