Sustainable. Holistic.
As a family-owned company that thinks in generations and always keeps the future in mind, ASSMANN develops furniture and services by considering the entire product life cycle from the very beginning – from the selection of materials and production to take-back and reuse. For us, sustainability is not a single aspect, but a guiding principle of our holistic corporate philosophy.
We conserve resources
Choosing materials consciously
Our commitment to sustainable action begins with the careful selection of suitable raw materials. That is why we rely on durable, high-quality materials with a high proportion of recycled content. In addition, every detail of our manufacturing processes is planned to minimize waste. Edge trimmings and residual materials are systematically reused and fed back into the production cycle in order to conserve valuable resources.
Using recycled materials responsibly
A large proportion of the wood-based materials we use already consists of recycled content. From 2026 onwards, this share will exceed 80 percent. Chipboard panels with a high proportion of secondary wood form the basis of many of our products. Steel and aluminum components are sourced from recycled materials wherever possible and can be remelted at the end of their life cycle. Through this targeted material selection, we conserve valuable primary resources and measurably reduce CO₂ emissions.
Edge materials in a closed loop
Together with our supplier REHAU, we return polypropylene residues from edge production to the material cycle as part of the “REHAU ReTurn” program. This allows us to avoid around five tons of residual waste every year. The recycled material flows back into production. Our goal is to manufacture an edge made of 100 percent recycled material. From 2026 onwards, all product lines will use REHAU Eco edge materials (50% recycled content) and Eco roller shutters (100% recycled content in the carrier material).
Sustainability that pays off
Our responsible use of valuable raw materials pays off – in every sense of the word. Those who invest in resource-efficient products save costs and emissions in the long term. ASSMANN demonstrates that ecological responsibility and economic efficiency go hand in hand.
We act circularly
Closed loops instead of one-way streets
For ASSMANN, sustainable thinking means acting in a circular way. We understand our products as part of a continuous cycle. That is why our furniture is designed from the outset to be returned to the material cycle after years of use – through take-back, refurbishment, or resale.
ASSMANN Circular
With our Rebuy, Refurbish and Resell services, we deliberately extend the service life of our furniture. Used furniture is taken back, refurbished and given a second life – inspected, updated and back in use. This circular approach reduces waste, saves CO₂ and conserves valuable resources.
Research for circularity
As a partner in projects such as Circular.Office, we actively contribute to developing furniture that is fully circular from the very beginning. The aim is to enable materials and components to be reused in the future with virtually no loss.
Double benefits for customers
Circular products make economic sense: they retain their value, are easy to repair and make a measurable contribution to CO₂ reduction. ASSMANN supports customers throughout the entire product life cycle with services that make sustainability tangible.
We create transparency
Making sustainability measurable
For ASSMANN, one thing is clear: sustainable actions must be measurable and comprehensible. That is why we document the carbon footprint of our products across the entire life cycle – from raw material extraction to recycling. This creates transparency regarding environmental impacts and potential savings.
Trust through verification
Trust also means independent verification. Certifications such as the “Blue Angel” ecolabel or the FEMB Level 3 standard provide independent proof of the ecological quality of our products. Our processes and data are regularly validated through external audits.
Open communication
We firmly believe that sustainability thrives on openness. For more than ten years, ASSMANN has reported regularly and comprehensively on progress and challenges. Our sustainability report, blog and website make our actions transparent and traceable for customers, employees and partners alike.
Reliable partnerships
A key part of our holistic sustainability concept is close cooperation with strong and reliable partners. Our sustainability ambassadors work closely with research institutions, industry associations and suppliers to further develop standards together. These collaborations ensure transparency along the entire value chain.
We act regionally
Roots in Melle, impact across Europe
Since its founding in 1939, ASSMANN has been firmly rooted in Melle, Germany. Our regional roots and close partnerships with neighboring companies mean that around 80 percent of our production material suppliers are located within a radius of 250 kilometers. This proximity helps reduce emissions through shorter transport routes, ensures high quality and strengthens local economic structures.
Living regional responsibility
ASSMANN has always seen itself as part of the community. That is why we actively engage in regional networks, maintain partnerships with associations and support local projects.
Made in Germany – with a future
Our production site in Melle is a clear expression of our sustainability philosophy. It stands for quality, innovation and reliability. Modern manufacturing technologies and continuous investments – most recently over seven million euros in warehouse and logistics facilities – secure jobs and reduce emissions through increased efficiency.
Sustainability in action, locally
The combination of regional value creation and international reach makes ASSMANN a reliable partner for sustainable working environments. Investing here means investing in the future – locally and globally.
