Dataport is an IT service provider in the area of public administration with headquarters in Altenholz near Kiel and branches in Hamburg, Bremen, Rostock, Lüneburg, Magdeburg and Halle (Saale). The company is owned by the states of Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein, as well as by the municipal 'IT Verbund Schleswig-Holstein' (IT Alliance Schleswig-Holstein). Founded in 2004, the company and its 2,400-strong workforce offer state and municipal customers a broad range of products and services. They extend from the provision of various network services, to the implementation of data protection concepts and IT procurements.
The concept reflects Dataport's corporate design. The design we submitted for the tender arranged the workstations in rows, like yachts in a harbour. The idea enables an entirely new quality of work, designed specifically to suit user needs. The maritime images create a sense of distance, while typical objects found in a harbour – and reinterpreted here – delineate particular areas. The office furniture by ASSMANN can be ideally integrated within this look. It is perfectly suited to a flexible, open and ergonomic working environment.
Wiebke Brendel, Interior Designer
Personnel growth and new requirements for workplace design necessitated the extension and conversion of the company headquarters in Altenholz. The aim in this content was to modernise the classic style of a public sector office and at the same time to act as a prototype for office design at other locations in the future.
Excavation work was initially carried out to expose the basement floor. Windows were then installed to make it suitable to accommodate offices. The individual offices on the ground floor were removed to make way for a large open-space office.
