Wurst Stahlbau
Creating new spaces – in Bersenbrück, Meerbusch, and Bremen, the visions of two companies that are successful in completely different industries come together. ASSMANN designs modern and appealing working environments with innovative services and a strong network of reliable specialist dealers. Wurst Stahlbau creates worlds of steel with traditional craftsmanship and an eye to the future. Together, the two medium-sized companies and their regional specialist retail partner N+S Bürocenter GmbH have succeeded in creating a completely new feel-good atmosphere for the steel manufacturer's employees.
A WORKING ENVIRONMENT THAT COMBINES HARD WORK AND WELL-BEING
ASSMANN and Wurst Stahlbau are not only consultants, problem solvers, and experts in their respective fields, but also valued partners who support each other with their know-how. Just as ASSMANN has now developed a tailor-made furnishing concept for Wurst in collaboration with specialist retailer N+S Bürocenter GmbH, Wurst has already proven its expertise at ASSMANN: The new logistics center, which has been in operation for several months, was realized by the steel construction company. Now ASSMANN is supporting the steel constructor in creating modern working environments at three locations that not only enable efficient work, but also make employees feel completely at home.
Wurst Stahlbau is a family-run, down-to-earth company operating in a traditional business sector, but it wants to bring tradition into the modern age. In 1966, Hildegard and Friedmut Wurst started out with a small metalworking shop. Today, the company employs around 280 people and is involved in major national and international projects in the fields of steel and industrial construction, plant engineering, revitalization, and turnkey construction. And with ASSMANN's help, Wurst Stahlbau has created a modern, comfortable working environment for its employees in a tough industry.
BY THE STAFF, FOR THE STAFF
All three Wurst Stahlbau locations—the headquarters in Bersenbrück and the branches in Bremen and Meerbusch—are shining in new splendor. While Bremen and Meerbusch have already been completely modernized, the headquarters in Bersenbrück is being renovated step by step. In Meerbusch, just outside Düsseldorf, the move to a new building provided the ideal opportunity to break away from the previous spatial concept, completely rethink the work processes, and adapt the working environment precisely to the modern work concept. The focus was on the wishes of the most important players: the employees.
Wurst Stahlbau's requirement was clear: to design spaces that not only encourage hard work, but also promote well-being and team spirit. Working closely together, the experts at ASSMANN and specialist retailer N+S Bürocenter GmbH created a working environment that is more than just an office – it is a place for exchange, creativity, and collaboration. With a clear focus on the needs of the people who use these spaces every day, a modern, functional design was created that also appeals to the emotions. The company color blue was used as a central design element, which not only reflects Wurst Stahlbau's corporate identity, but also creates harmony for calm and concentration.
ASSMANN – WORKING ENVIRONMENTS BY PROFESSIONALS FOR PROFESSIONALS
As a comprehensive partner, ASSMANN offers its customers a wide range of services that go far beyond just providing office furniture. One example of this is the ASSMANN 4ROOMS team, which specializes in developing customized furnishing concepts in close consultation with the employees of the customer companies.
This was also the case at Wurst Stahlbau: at the company's request, ASSMANN's workplace consulting experts moderated a workshop at the start of the project phase, in which employees contributed their requirements, wishes, and ideas for the new workspaces and furnishings. This was an important step in creating acceptance and identification with the new room concepts at an early stage. The foundation for a successful project was laid. Based on this, detailed planning took place in close cooperation with the specialist retail partner N+S Bürocenter GmbH on site. The result: a modern working environment in which employees feel comfortable and enjoy using.
NEW WORKING ENVIRONMENTS FOR WURST STAHLBAU IN JUST FOUR MONTHS
A total of around 30 new workstations have been equipped and designed at the three Wurst locations, covering a total area of almost 700 square meters. But the real added value of this redesign goes far beyond the mere number of new workstations. There are also modern meeting rooms, inviting lounge areas, and a functional and stylish office kitchen. What makes this project special is that the entire process—from the initial concept discussions with the working group to the selection of suitable furnishing solutions and final commissioning—was completed in just four months. And there were a number of individual tasks to be solved along the way. This success is also thanks to the expert work of specialist retail partner N+S Bürocenter GmbH.
INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS REQUIRE INDIVIDUAL SOLUTIONS
In Meerbusch in particular, many employees are involved in sales and order processing. In addition, designers and drafters need personal and spacious workstations. Many of them also work remotely or in the office on a rotating basis, and some even change locations occasionally. The requirements were complex, as personal workstations and offices as well as desk-sharing spaces had to be planned in order to make the use of space particularly efficient.
This resulted in many requirements for the furniture – at first glance, the sum of these wishes seems almost impossible to fulfill. However, it all depends on the furniture. Design engineers and draftsmen sometimes work with large paper plans that need to be spread out. Therefore, they need personal workstations with desks that can be flexibly enlarged. For this reason, tables were selected that can be extended at the sides in just a few simple steps.
The electrically height-adjustable desks from the Tensos product series were chosen for the desk sharing spaces in the open-plan office. At the touch of a button, the Tensos desk offers an easy switch between sitting and standing work and also enables individual ergonomic working for all employees – regardless of their height. This is a particularly important factor when it comes to daily changes at workstations. The matching Pontis open-plan containers are ideal for structuring the space and at the same time provide privacy for undisturbed and concentrated work in the open-plan office.

The open lounge area is separated from the flexible work area by modern Cubas shelves and offers additional storage space. The beautifully designed Allvia planters add special green accents that create an extra feel-good atmosphere. Another highlight are the Syneo-Part stools and Consento-Cuneo sofas, which serve as a cozy retreat and add colorful accents to the cozy living room atmosphere. Here, you can relax during your lunch break or engage in informal conversation. The chosen COOL color concept brings harmony, calm, and concentration to the room with a range of different shades of blue. In combination with carefully selected plants, the color scheme creates a calm yet fresh environment.
COMPLEX TASKS SOLVED CLEVERLY – WITH SMART TECHNOLOGIES FOR MODERN WORKING LIFE
Home offices and flexible workplaces are now indispensable parts of modern working life – but they also bring new challenges: Where can personal work materials be stored securely? How can confidential documents be exchanged between colleagues in an uncomplicated and traceable manner when they are in the office at different times? How can resources in the company be managed efficiently? With smart solutions from ASSMANN, Wurst Stahlbau is setting new standards in office design by digitally transforming everyday working life and supporting newly introduced hybrid forms of working and desk sharing. The ASSMANN SMART Locker – an intelligent, software-controlled locker system – not only functions as a storage place for personal items, but also as a handover point for work materials, cross-departmental project documents, or confidential documents. Managed digitally via software, handovers and the documented lending of technical equipment can be organized here independently of fixed times or personal encounters.
Particularly innovative: the flexible workspaces can also be booked digitally. In a hybrid working environment – sometimes in the home office, sometimes in the office – fixed workspaces are a thing of the past and the right one has to be found again and again. ASSMANN has a competent partner at its disposal for this. With the GoBright app, employees can conveniently reserve the workstation next to their favorite colleague for the next day with just a few clicks on their cell phone or other device, regardless of their location. Smart flexibility is finding its way into the world of steel precision thanks to modern technology. These innovative features ensure a modern and future-proof working environment. The result: satisfied employees who experience their office not only as a functional workplace, but as a progressive, digital place of collaboration.

ONE STEP AHEAD IN THE BATTLE FOR TALENTED MINDS
The world of work has changed dramatically in recent years. Not only hybrid forms of work, but also the wishes of young talents have changed the demands placed on working environments. Where functionality and robustness used to be the main focus, completely new aspects have now come to the fore. Young employees value appearance, but especially a feel-good atmosphere and flexible opportunities for teamwork and interaction with colleagues. The break area and retreat options therefore received special attention at Wurst Stahlbau in order to promote cooperation and create space for relaxation. To encourage colleagues to switch from working from home to the office, this should offer significant advantages.
Christina Schulz notes that younger applicants in particular who come in for interviews are enthusiastic about the smart working conditions. "We often get admiring glances when we walk through the office with applicants. The color scheme and aesthetic furniture are also extremely well received!" Last but not least, the modern furnishings are particularly striking because companies in the steel industry are not generally perceived as modern and chic. But it's not just new employees who are attracted by the modern working environment; long-standing colleagues also greatly appreciate the new working atmosphere. This is because breaks and collegial interaction also find space in the cozy lounge areas and coffee points. Here, employees can not only relax during a break, but also meet for a short team meeting in a pleasant atmosphere. This is also good for team spirit. This is exactly how a workplace becomes a place of well-being.
