ASSMANN Invests in New Logistics Centre

Total investment of 6.5 million euros in the Melle site to create 2,200m2 of usable logistics and warehouse space as well as state-of-the-art photovoltaic systems.

The beginning of the year saw the excavators advance on ASSMANN Büromöbel in Melle. Where, until just recently, the prototype construction and Büroseum buildings stood on the factory premises, a modern logistics and storage area of around 2,200m2 in size will now be built, with completion scheduled for autumn 2023. Following the demolition work, which has already been completed, the pile foundations required for the structural components (a total of 124 piles) will be installed in the ground at a depth of 22 metres at the start of March. Following this, the base slab for the 18-metre-high steel building structure will be poured. A photovoltaic system with a total output of 660 KWp will be installed on the roof and façades, with all the electricity generated by this system to be used by the company itself. In total, ASSMANN is investing around 6.5 million euros in the new building at the Melle site, including sustainable energy generation and vastly improved protection against flooding, ensured in part by the creation of a rainwater retention basin.

“The new building and the expansion of our warehouse and logistics areas will really help us to improve the reliability of our deliveries and optimise our processes for greater productivity, and represent an investment in the future of the production site in Melle,” says Dirk Aßmann, Managing Director.

The new warehouse building provides ample space for storage and order picking.  One reason why this has become necessary is because ASSMANN has systematically expanded its product portfolio in recent years to include lounge and seating furniture as well as office swivel chairs and kitchens, which are not produced in Melle, but are dispatched from there to customers as complete deliveries together with the desk and storage furniture that is manufactured on site.

The new high-bay warehouse not only has significantly more storage space, but also offers enough room to sort and process the goods that are delivered each day. By expanding the dispatch area, the number of exit gates where goods can be directly loaded on to trucks will also increase. Based on current plans, completion and commissioning is scheduled to take place in October of this year.
