ASSMANN makes further progress in terms of sustainability

2020 sustainability report published – office furniture manufacturer is once again one of the best companies in the German Sustainability Award

ASSMANN Büromöbel GmbH & Co. KG has published its 2020 sustainability report. In the printed version and above all the new digital format of its sustainability report, the firm documents its sustainable actions in the areas of ecological, economic and social responsibility. Entitled #weiter_gehen, it is also a commitment to actively and consistently continue to pursue its chosen approach. “When it comes to the responsible treatment of our environment and its natural resources, we not only aim to meet standards, but also to far exceed them,“ says Dirk Aßmann, Managing Partner.

Which is why ASSMANN not only issues its EMAS environmental statement every year, but has also now published its fourth sustainability report in accordance with the GRI standard, which has been externally verified by TÜV – with the aim of not only presenting facts and providing evidence of its own actions, but also of making suggestions as to how sustainable, responsible business practices can be designed in an international family-owned firm. After ASSMANN achieved a place on the SME winner’s podium in last year’s German Sustainability Award, the office furniture manufacturer reached the finals again this year, this time in the resources transformation field.

Sustainability activities as strategic success factors

Sustainability is a central theme of ASSMANN’s corporate strategy. It is not only concerned with its own sustainable thinking and action in all areas of everyday work, but also with the design of up and downstream processes. #weiter_gehen documents its sustainability activities to protect the environment and resources as strategic success factors, alongside quality, innovative manufacturing techniques, product technology and cost efficiency, as well as social responsibility, especially for its own employees and region.

Various sections use film clips, etc., to clearly document and provide information on how, as a manufacturer of innovative furniture systems and furnishing solutions for modern office environments, the family-owned firm is working with its partners to promote environmental and climate protection. “Together, we are ensuring that the formulation of economic, ecological and social objectives also results in sustainable action – for the benefit of the environment and society,” according to Aßmann.

Sustainability ambassadors provide 360° view of ASSMANN

Not only ASSMANN’s managers and staff act in accordance with strict economic, ecological and social sustainability standards that far exceed the legal requirements. Sustainability is also extremely important to its suppliers, specialist retailers, customers and other stakeholders – each with their own individual requirements and characteristics. Working closely together, they are all helping to firmly embed this issue along the entire process chain.

The ASSMANN sustainability ambassadors, who have been recruited from both within the company as well as from partner organisations and associations, provide a detailed explanation of how this collaboration works. As well as an ASSMANN apprentice and a long-standing maintenance employee, these also include the managing director of a specialist retail partner, the sales manager of a chipboard supplier, a board member of the B.A.U.M.- sustainability network and the CEO of IHK-Osnabrück-Emsland-Bad Bentheim. These sustainability ambassadors appear in short film clips, reporting on how sustainability is embodied and implemented during everyday interaction and collaboration with ASSMANN.
