ASSMANN Büromöbel once again nominated for German Sustainability Award

Melle-based family firm qualifies for Europe’s premiere environmental and social commitment award

The continuing good work of ASSMANN Büromöbel GmbH & Co. KG is not only held in high regard by its specialist retail partners, customers and staff, but also by the German Sustainability Award.  Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V., which presents Europe’s most prestigious annual award for environmental and social commitment, has once again nominated the office furniture manufacturer in 2020, after first doing so in 2019. The motto of this year’s competition is “transformation leaders” and ASSMANN has been nominated in the resources transformation field. This alone is an honour for Dirk Aßmann. The Managing Partner believes it categorically confirms that the company is on the right track with its huge involvement in and clear commitment to sustainable and responsible action in the three areas of ecology, social affairs and economic efficiency. “ASSMANN is once again one of Germany’s most sustainable firms. We can be proud of that,” says Aßmann. The Sustainability Award will be presented on 3 and 4 December 2020 in Düsseldorf.

Sustainability is a central theme at ASSMANN

Sustainability is an integral part of the family firm’s corporate philosophy. ASSMANN regularly publishes an environmental and sustainability report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and in 1996 was one of the first German businesses to be entered in the EMAS register, the world's strictest system for environmental management and auditing. EMAS stands for “Eco-Management and Audit Scheme” and was developed by the European Community to create standards for companies and organisations that are demonstrably seeking to improve their environmental performance. Besides EMAS certification, ASSMANN was also one of the first family firms to submit the German Sustainability Code (DNK) declaration and receive certification according to FEMB’s pan-European level programme, the most comprehensive European sustainability standard for office and non-domestic furniture.

Focus on sustainability transformation fields

The German Sustainability Award is conferred on companies, municipalities and research institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany for outstanding achievements in the services of sustainability. Winners are selected by Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis in cooperation with the Federal Government, business federations, leading community associations, civil society organisations and research institutions.

In 2020, the competition is being held for the thirteenth time. With various sub-competitions, over 800 nominees and closing events attended by 2,000 guests, it is the largest and most comprehensive award of its kind in Europe. Categories for this year’s Sustainability Award are the major sustainable transformation fields of climate, resources, biodiversity, society and fairness. According to the German Sustainability Award website, the potential winners include businesses that are prime examples of implementing real transformation and use this as an economic opportunity.
