From Rieste to Bersenbrück: Canoeing along the river Hase

A day trip for the ASSMANN apprentices

ASSMANN scheduled an exciting outdoor activity as a bonding experience for its crop of apprentices this year. A canoe trip down the river Hase was on the agenda for the fresh faces, and of course for their second and third-year colleagues as well. Elena, 1st-year apprentice, returned from the excursion with a gushing report:

"We set off on our tour from Rieste in glorious weather. Our destination was around five hours of paddling away, in Bersenbrück: the restaurant 'Zum Heidekrug'. But before we got started we received a short briefing. This included all of the safety measures we needed to observe, and also some tips on how to handle the canoe. But finally we headed off after stowing our provisions safely away!

A beautiful landscape stretched out on either side, and it was a wonderful feeling to be paddling along in a canoe. We took a break at around the half-way mark, settling down in the sun for some snacks to recharge the batteries for the rest of the journey. A delicious barbecue buffet with a great selection of salads was waiting once all of the apprentices had reached the jetty in Bersenbrück – still dry, thankfully – where we brought the evening to an enjoyable conclusion.

All of the 15 apprentices had a really good time. Paddling together was a wonderful opportunity to bond, and everyone had a chance to talk to each other. We are already looking forward to the next activity organised for the apprentices." This was indeed the unanimous verdict of all the participants.

Alexander Neudorf, head of HR and someone who feels particularly strongly about training the apprentices, is delighted at the outcome: "It is important to us that the young entrants at ASSMANN receive more than just an in-depth education. Instead we are equally keen to foster team spirit and a sense of togetherness. We see it as an investment in the social skills of our future employees. So we are pleased to pay for this kind of activity that deliberately takes them outside of their normal working environment."
