Melle. Four months into the current financial year, office furniture manufacturer Assmann has reported a 30% increase in orders taken compared with the same period last year. Encouraged by this extremely positive development, the company has now raised its 2011 sales forecast to EUR 70 million.
Assmann concluded the 2010 financial year with a turnover of EUR 59.4 million, which represented a 4% increase compared with 2009. With this in mind, Managing Partner Dirk Aßmann went on to explain: "Due to the volatile economic situation in the second half of 2010, we had expected a significant increase in orders for 2011. We could not, however, have predicted such a major increase right at the beginning of the new year." Director Bernd Menke attributes this extraordinary success to his sales and marketing strategy of continuously developing the prestigious project business. He explained that Assmann, as a well-known supplier of office furniture to public administrative facilities, has also been supplying design solutions to the high-end sector for some five years now. "We are the market leaders in the public institutions business. And now for the first time we have achieved above-average growth in the prestigious project business, which we have been working on consistently," Menke was pleased to announce. He is assuming, however, that the current growth rates for orders received will level off to around 18% for the year as a whole. This is merely on the basis of higher comparative figures from the previous year for the next few months.
According to Dirk Aßmann, however, revenue and self-financing capacity are the decisive corporate parameters, notwithstanding the successful sales figures. With 270 or so employees, the family-run business produces desk ranges and storage systems exclusively at its Melle site in Lower Saxony, Germany. The company has operated without bank loans for decades. In order to increase production efficiency still further and thereby ensure that the company maintains its current price leadership in the office furniture sector (according to company data), investments of EUR 12 to 14 million in new manufacturing concepts are planned between now and 2013. These investments are to be made without any external capital.
